My Summer 2010 Living Room
21 Oct
Upon the unveiling of the new iMacs and the Magic Mouse – check out Apple’s site to take a look – and I’ve got a good feeling about where we’re heading.

The convergence of the web and TV is happening fairly quickly. Where the entertainment industry and how they distribute in the future is a discussion for another time.
What I want to write about here is the user experience, and how technology fits into that. Above are the new iMacs – squint your eyes, and they look like a regular HDTV, yes?
Realistically, this could be my living room next summer:
1) 48-inch iMac – where my TV would’ve been.
2) iPhone – my remote control.
3) iTablet – this is only rumored, but it’s probably essentially a big iPhone, and tied into the interface on the iMac. This is also where my keyboard is.
4) Magic Mouse – on the armrest of the chair.
I run all my calls through this interface, some with video if I want it – the webcam is obviously in the iMac. (And the iTablet if I need to get up.)
iTunes has all my favorite shows, which I’ll purchase piecemeal for a dollar/episode, although I assume there will be all kinds of package deals. I’ll also have Netflix, which will be able to stream movies. NBA.com for my streaming basketball.
(Of course, this device is my computer, so it’ll have all my contacts/email/social networking/etc.)
I’ll no longer have a TV, or cable/satellite, or a phone. I guess I can lose the desk, also.
